A renewed entry experience supports legibility and purpose, a layered arrival sequence (garden, path, doorway, portal, reception, cellar) amplifies the fine dining experience. The updated kitchen, and state-of-the-art facilities, supports a modest sized restaurant seating less than 50 patrons per evening, which showcases the finest Australian produce and flavours and will be called Yiaga.
Yiaga
Our transformative project elevates a dining space nestled in the heart of Fitzroy Gardens in East Melbourne, into a fine dining destination.
Previously known as The Pavilion, it's a single-story space that has existed as a place of respite within the gardens since the turn of the century. The Kiosk, a tearoom was first built in 1908, however it was replaced by The Pavilion in 1963 and has maintained the tradition as a place to gather for refreshment since.
The refurbishment has preserved the existing structure and roof. The revamped pavilion houses an open dining and kitchen area and is immersed in nature, offering views of new landscaping and the surrounding gardens. Naturally the garden views were key drivers of the design as much as imparting a true pavilion experience.

The views out are enhanced by a sense of enclosure defined by the dining arrangements. The intention is to create special, secluded moments with generous views out for each table.

Custom wall linings both internally and externally will signal a place of refined elegance.

Much consideration and attention has been devoted to the selection of materials, fixtures, fittings and furniture with a focus on local craft and makers. The design reflects the care and attention to detail that the restaurant will place on each dining experience.
