Nestled in a heritage rich neighbourhood, Three Gardens Terrace seeks to respect and reflect, not imitate the surrounding character.

The house is comprised of a terrace and series of pavilions set across the remainder of the site. The volume mediates the transition between a pair of existing townhouses to the south, and the hip/gable roofscape of the residences to the north. The terrace accords with the proportion of the existing in both width and depth, whilst the pavilions provide pockets of garden to maximise northern solar access.

Both terrace and pavilion are drawn together via a singular material response of masonry. The custom glazed brick, developed specially for the project with Krause bricks, draws from the varied tonality of built fabric of the neighbourhood. Large, glazed windows with steel plate reveals and operable timber clad ventilation panels permit views and light ingress.

The detached studio, garage, and guest pavilion to the rear of the site has a minimal material presence, feature metal cladding punctuated by large east and west facing windows.
