The St Patrick’s College Multipurpose Centre represents a once-in-a-generation transformation project for the school. With an 800-seat auditorium and retractable seating that will host a range of events - from school assemblies, music/drama performances to community events, it will also accommodate a series of learning spaces and purpose-built areas specialised for performing arts, music and drama.

Set within the historic 120-year-old campus, the surrounding significant heritage buildings have been carefully considered in the architectural design for the new centre. Located adjacent to the formal gardens along Sturt Street, the building will contribute to the primary school frontage and facilitate the development of a new campus forecourt and entry. The design reflects a response that is contemporary but integrated with the campus context through careful consideration of scale, rhythm and materiality.

The building implements passive sustainable design integrated with a series of landscaped zones. It frames a northern forecourt that acts as a place for community gatherings, outdoor events and lunchtime concerts. Other landscaped areas offer potential spaces for external performances and the daily activities of the working campus. The positioning of the building allows for free movement around the building and a range of access points to maximise the permeability of the building.
