This unusual residential tower avoids the typical standardised arrangements of apartments.

Our principal idea for this thirty-storey residential tower moves from the inside out. An essential character is found by imagining the life within and the views beyond.

Our challenge is to make each of the 148 apartments as individual and house-like as possible. Rather than each unit stacking up against one another with simple privacy walls separating balconies, the plan shifts and turns opening up a range of views and giving each dwelling its own experience of the vast panorama.

This aligning of apartments to specific locations in turn gives the tower its sculptural form and folding glass facade. Continuing the towers expressive geometry and replacing what would typically hold the plant room services, the crown of the building comprises larger apartments configured so they appear as a twisting metallic form cantilevering towards the city, bridge and water.

Suggesting the drama held within, entry for the residential tower is a tall theatrical space leading from the front door to the lifts.

Punctuating this journey by a series of crafted timber details, including the entry to a wine cellar and then opposite, a specially commissioned artwork by artist Dani Marti that lines the undulating passage wall.

At the macro level the prestige homes for Dock 5 have been designed to create a flamboyant, pirouetting top to the overall tower so they are very distinct from the main body of the tower. The forms are sculptural, with several spaces suspended in the air to emphasise the idea that they are separate individual entities. Their views are panoramic in several directions.

At the detail level, each prestige home has been designed individually. There is very little repetition between them. Generous flowing living spaces maximizing views and northern orientation. The finishes to bathrooms and kitchens have been carefully considered to complement the spaces and create and individuality to these apartments.
