This resonant house stage manages views within and beyond.

Situated on an elevated site, a concrete shell forms a podium for the two-storey structure. The meeting point of two views is marked by a distinctive cambered crimp in the copper-clad facade.

The house addresses the street as a glazed slice through its interior, set to capture the view lines. The reflectivity of this facade deflects views from the street. The edges of this massive window are tailored and dressed to meet its copper and timber armature.

A two-storey high wall is a defining element of the interior. The camber is powerful in expressing the junction of the two view angles, producing a dynamic segment of the external elevation. It also provides a device to deflect movement between the two living spaces.

Idiosyncratic inflections of the floor plan crimp spaces at particular points to taper views to a slice, which are revealed as panoramas within the two major living spaces.

This way the house relates directly to its site and the commanding views of the city to the northwest and Melbourne’s eastern suburbs, and the Yarra Valley to the northeast.
