Belerren Sports and Wellbeing Centre
The new sports and wellbeing centre at the senior campus is designed to promote health and wellness allowing students to shine on and off the field. The Waddawurrung people of the Kulin Nation are the Traditional Owners of the lands where The Geelong College now stands, and the building will be known as Belerren, meaning 'to shine' in the Waddawurrung language.
The centre defines a sporting precinct at the western edge of the campus. Belerren incorporates a purpose-built double court gymnasium and world-class training environment. It’s a facility to host school events, sports training, inter-school competition with additional learning spaces. Belerren also caters for the broader College community and is a significant place for school gathering.
Planning and design were carefully executed to allow the building to sit in concert with the heritage buildings on site. The building levels are carefully calibrated to nestle into the existing hillside. Car parking and maintenance facilities are located below the building which liberates the ground plane.
Wardle has been working closely with The Geelong College since 2015, initially on a comprehensive Masterplan across both of its campuses and following this, a series of projects including Campbell House Junior School completed in 2020.
Belerren will be a place to celebrate excellence and growth.
